Halve Waste offers free waste education visits to high schools, primary schools, childcare facilities,
community groups and educational organisations in AlburyCity, City of Wodonga, Federation
Council and the Shires of Indigo, Greater Hume and Towong to promote waste minimisation,

Schools Education Program

The Halve Waste Education Program includes interactive activities that are age appropriate and
curriculum linked. Teachers receive free follow up resources and student worksheets. The
program includes:

Tailored in-class sessions. These range from 30 minutes to one hour based on the following topics:

  • Bin smart
  • Halve our waste
  • Wasteful v’s waste wise
  • Primary composters
  • Compost fundamentals
  • Worm farmers
  • Waste Trace
  • Let’s talk trash

Lessons can be adapted and customized to suit school lesson time tables and learning stages.

Kindergartens and Early Learning Centres

The Halve Waste Education Program is also available to early learning centres and kindergartens
and is suitable for children in their pre-school year (4-5 years). The following sessions are offered.

Community Groups

Halve Waste also offer residents and community groups opportunity to access waste education
through planned events and presentations. Community groups can also book free waste
education talks on request.

  • Waste and Recycling – Being Bin Smart
  • Waste Minimisation
  • Compost Workshops
  • Cloth Nappy Workshops
  • Reusable Products Demonstration/displays
  • Other topics on request

Schools and Community Sponsorship Program

Our Schools & Community Sponsorship Program offers schools and community groups the opportunity to access financial assistance to support events, programs and resources that help achieve their Halve Waste goals.

Guided bus tours are available to school students from years 3 to 12 and community groups. The tours are an excellent way to see first hand what happens to the waste we generate.

You will need to provide your own transport to the facility, however alternative transport options are available upon request.
